Look at this thing I got to direct!
So I haven’t updated in a while, and I figured previously that unless something somewhat significant came up, there really was no point in updating my menial business with the world (Of course, if you wanted an almost live, up-to-date record of my life, just find me on Facebook… it’s not that hard to find).
Anyhow, back to the post! Recently, I’ve taken a pretty significant role with Wayside Creations and have moved into being a content creator/director; as well as a slew of other responsibilities, and had the opportunity to take a couple of scripts from our nearly endless vault of creative writers and directed a couple of skits last week.
First, let me tell you how nice it is to have such a strong community of friends and fans of our channel in order to give any one of us the opportunity to do this. It’s simply magnificent. Second, YouTube Space in Los Angeles is seriously one of the coolest things ever created. You get the opportunity to shoot on their sets, with their gear, and utilize their services… for free! It’s pretty much the most amazing thing budding filmmakers could ask for.
So I was handed a couple of skits I wanted to shoot, we booked the dates, and decided to shoot out both shorts on that day. And let me tell you… I couldn’t be happier with the results. From paper to screen, both skits turned out just as I had imagined, and lost almost no previous vision, which as any filmmaker will tell you, is really tough to do.
But of course it could not have been accomplished without the cast and crew. Firstly, the writing was just so much fun on all parts. The cast played their roles perfectly, and were so talented and excitable. And I’m not lying when I say we have the best independent film crew ANYONE could ask for. The passion, the drive, the artistic sensibilities they ALL possess. Give us a million dollar project, and we’ll BLOW it out of the water, I can promise you that.
Anyway, at the end of the day, we had one of the most productive *free* projects we’ve ever worked on, and I couldn’t be happier to share with you our first film, Sean Hackman’s, “Happiest Birthday."
Please take a look and let me know what you think, either here on the tumblr-sphere, or on YouTube itself!
Thank you!
